How to Pick Out the Perfect Gift

The most important thing with finding the perfect gift for a three-year-old is to remember that they’re still really young and won’t be able to easily grasp many of the things that older kids can. They also don’t have the attention span of many older children, so you’ll want to find something that’s easy for them to play with.

So, keep all this in mind as you read through our list of recommendations and pick out which toys will be perfect for your little one!

Here are my picks for the best gifts for a 3 year old girl

Gifts to Avoid Buying

I’m going to be honest with you here – a lot of toys aren’t suitable for a 3-year-old girl. They’re too old for many of the baby toys, but they’re still below the age where they can play with some of the more advanced toys. Here are a few types of gifts you’ll want to avoid giving a 3 year old.

Gift Cards

While gift cards can make a great gift, 3-year-olds generally don’t understand what they are and don’t have the ability to purchase anything themselves. So, if you give a 3 year old a gift card it may just end up being another thing for her parents to deal with.

Messy Toys

Unless you’re the parent (or have asked their parents), it’s generally best to avoid messy toys. Even though you know that your toddler will love playing with paint or slime, their parents will likely not be excited about the mess it’ll make. Especially if they have hardwood floors instead of carpets! So, keep all messy toys off this list and avoid giving them as gifts to 3 year olds.

Stuffed Animals

Stuffed animals can be great toys for young children, but they’re pretty useless to a 3 year old. By this age, most kids are too big for them and prefer playing with other things like dolls or action figures. The only exception we’ve found are stuffed animals that come in playsets like a grooming set or doctor’s kit.

Where to Buy Gifts

My favorite places to buy gifts for 3 years olds are:

Target

Amazon

Wal-Mart

and local toy stores. While local toy stores might be a little pricier than shopping online, they’ll usually have a great unique section of toys and activities to choose from.

Gift Lists

One of my favorite things to do for my daughter is to create a gift list and give that link to my family that asks. We’ve been doing online gift lists for a little while in our family and it’s nice because then our family knows exactly what to get (and we avoid getting duplicates!). We love creating gift lists on Amazon because they carry pretty much everything so it helps us create an all in one wish list.

Final Thoughts

It can be hard to find the right gift for a 3 year old girl, but I hope this list has helped you narrow down your options. It’s important that whatever toy you end up choosing is engaging and will keep her attention as she grows older. I’ve included age appropriate toys on our list as well as those that grow with them so they’ll last through their toddler years into preschool or kindergarten without getting too boring or difficult to use.
