30 Delicious Canned Pumpkin Recipes You Need to Try
It’s almost fall! One of my favorite things about fall is that it means it’s time for ALL THINGS PUMPKIN!
Growing up I never really was a huge pumpkin fan, but lately, I’m obsessed (I think I should thank Starbucks and the PSL for that).
While Pumpkin flavored everything is delicious, did you know that pumpkin is actually healthy for you too?
Pumpkin is high in many vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, fiber, potassium, and Vitamins K and C.
I have been trying canned pumpkin out in different ways this year- it tastes great mixed into oatmeal or yogurt, as a base for soup, or make into a delicious fall treat.
One of my favorite (and easiest) ways to get in my pumpkin fix is by using canned pumpkin puree!

What is Pumpkin Puree?
Pumpkin puree is canned pumpkin. You can also make your own canned and/or frozen pumpkin puree, but canned pumpkin is canned fresh (not canned the year before).
The canned pumpkin sold in stores come in two varieties: a sweet variety or “pumpkin pie filling” which contains sugar and spices.
There is also a regular version called “pumpkin puree” that is just plain pumpkin without any added spices or sugar.
What’s the Difference Between Canned Pumpkin Puree and Fresh Pumpkin?
The canned pumpkin has already been cooked, canned, and ready to be used in a recipe. Fresh pumpkins have not yet been cooked.
How to Make Pumpkin Puree with Fresh Pumpkin
You can make canned pumpkin puree with any fresh pumpkin!
First, you need to cut the pumpkin into chunks, then remove all of the seeds and pulp from each chunk.
Once that is done, place the pumpkin pieces onto a roasting pan and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees or until they are soft.
The pumpkin should be soft and easy to pierce with a fork. Let it cool for a few minutes and then it’s ready to be used in your favorite fall recipe!
Where to Buy Canned Pumpkin Puree
Canned pumpkin puree usually comes canned in a 15 oz can and costs about $2-3 per can at the store and can often be found around fall time.
I think the earliest I’ve seen it in stores in early August, and it usually is in stores through the holiday season.
