Are Overnight Oats Healthy?

Yes, overnight oats are a healthy breakfast option that can provide you with a balanced and nutritious start to your day. Oats are a great source of fiber, which helps keep you feeling full and can aid in digestion. They also contain important vitamins and minerals like iron, magnesium, and zinc.

By adding protein powder and chia seeds to this recipe, you’re increasing the protein content and adding healthy fats as well. This can help keep your energy levels up throughout the morning and prevent you from reaching for unhealthy snacks.

How to Meal Prep Overnight Oats

The best part of this recipe is that it’s meal prep friendly as written! You can make a batch of these oats and keep them in the fridge for up to a week.

If you’re traveling, you could combine the dry ingredients (chia seeds, protein powder and oats) in a container and then add the liquid ingredients and berries when you get to your destination.

How to Store Blueberry Muffin Overnight Oats

After you make this recipe, store it in the fridge for up to 7 days in an airtight container. I like to use mason jars with resealable lids.

When you’re ready to eat, simply take the jars out of fridge for a few minutes and eat! If you prefer your oats warm, you can microwave for a few minutes until it’s heated through.

The Secret to Overnight Oats

When I’ve mentioned to people that I have overnight oats for breakfast, some of my friends have brought up that they just can’t figure out how to make them. They’ve tried in the past to make it but they’ve come out watery or bland.

The secret to making the best overnight oats is using a milk based liquid. I found that if you try to lighten up by using water, the oats come out really watery. I like to use almond milk because it’s a lighter option but still makes overnight oats come out perfect every time.

Another secret that has helped me make the perfect oats is adding in a mix in. I like to add in fruit to my oats because it gives it an extra pop of flavor, plus it adds in even more volume. Some of my favorite mix-ins include strawberries, blueberries, and bananas.
