To make this recipe you’ll need:

  • Bananas
  • Applesauce
  • Milk (dairy or non dairy)
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla
  • Brown sugar
  • Flour
  • Baking powder
  • Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees and spray a cookie sheet (13×9 pan) with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, mash the bananas until there are no lumps. Mix in the applesauce, milk, eggs, vanilla and brown sugar until well combined.
  3. Once the wet ingredients are mixed, add in the flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt and mix until a batter forms.
  4. Gently fold in about 1/2 of the chocolate chips into the batter.
  5. Pour the batter on to the cookie sheet and sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips.
  6. Bake in the oven for 22-24 minutes, or until the edges are browned and you can insert a toothpick in the middle and it comes out clean.
  7. Cut into 24 pieces and enjoy!

How to Store Leftovers

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

If you want to freeze extras, wait until they’re completely cooled and then wrap in plastic wrap and then place in a freezer bag. Freeze extra chocolate chip banana bars for up to 6 months.

When you’re ready to eat, remove from the freezer and defrost in the fridge 24 hours before serving.

What to Serve With Chocolate Chip Banana Bars

These bars are great on their own, but can also be served like a dessert with a little ice cream on top (if you have extra bananas you could even make your own healthy ice cream)!

How Can I Tell if My Bananas are Ripe?

The best way to tell if bananas are ripe are when the outside peel starts to turn brown and the banana is soft to touch.

I Have a TON of Ripe Bananas! What Else Can I Make?

This is a great “problem” to have! A few of my favorite recipes that use ripe bananas are Banana Bread, Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls, Banana Cinnamon Muffins or Baked Blueberry Oatmeal with Bananas.
