How to Store Leftovers
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
If you want to freeze extras, wait until they’re completely cooled and then wrap in plastic wrap and then place in a freezer bag. Freeze extra chocolate chip banana bars for up to 6 months.
When you’re ready to eat, remove from the freezer and defrost in the fridge 24 hours before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Ripe Bananas to Make This Recipe?
This recipe is best using ripe bananas, but regular bananas can also be used. The benefit to using ripe bananas is they have more of a sweet flavor after baking and really make the chocolate chip bars have an extra banana flavor – kind of like a banana bread.
How Can I Tell if My Bananas are Ripe?
The best way to tell if bananas are ripe are when the outside peel starts to turn brown and the banana is soft to touch.
How Can I Make This Recipe Vegan?
To make a vegan version of this recipe:
- Swap out the milk for your favorite non dairy milk – my favorite is Ripple Unsweetened Milk
- Use Flax Egg Replacement like this one in place of the egg
- Use Non Dairy Chocolate Chips like Enjoy Life Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
I Have a TON of Ripe Bananas! What Else Can I Make?
This is a great “problem” to have! A few of my favorite recipes that use ripe bananas are Banana Bread, Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls, Banana Cinnamon Muffins or Baked Blueberry Oatmeal with Bananas.
