What is Color My Cookie

Color My Cookie is a cookie decorating kit that sends you everything you need to decorate gourmet shortbread cookies! The idea came from a bakery in Dallas, Texas in 2020 when the owners had to close their storefront and switched to delivering DIY cookie kits in their neighborhood. It quickly became a hit and they started shipping the kits nationwide!

Inside the Box

The box arrived and we were so excited to jump in!

Inside the box we found:

6 individually wrapped cookies

1 edible color paining palate with watercolors on top (it’s the same type of cookie you decorate)

2 paint brushes and cups

Icing, sprinkles and edible decor (ours was silver glitter paint and fun sprinkles!)

Review

Once we got the kit we were excited to jump in and try it out! We ordered the unicorn and rainbow kit, which came with a mix of cookies shaped like rainbows and unicorns. The cookies were white and did have a little icing on top, as well as design lines. The cookies all arrived in perfect condition.

In addition to the cookies, the kit came with everything we needed to decorate. The kit included paintbrushes, sprinkles, edible glitter paint and little cups to hold water. There was also an extra cookie that served as a color palette with different colors on top!

our setup for coloring cookies

I filled up one of the cups with a little water and we got started! To use the paint, you dip your paint brush into water and then rub it on top of the paint on the palette to loosen it up, kind of like those old water color kits.

We had so much fun coloring our cookies! The color came out like watercolor and made the cookies look so pretty! I was impressed that even my 3 year old’s work ended up looking really nice. The colors beautifully blended together to almost create a tie-dye effect. I also really liked that the cookies came with detail lines so the colors would stay in each section and made painting a little easier.

The cookies also came prepackaged so once we decorated them and let them dry, we were able to put them back into the sleeves to keep them fresh. We did end up eating once after we decorated (these cookies are pretty big so one was more than enough for the day) and they were delicious!

I’m impressed with the Color My Cookie kits and think it’s the perfect activity for at home. It’s especially great for little kids that might just be too young to do an activity like this in a bakery. I also liked that it wasn’t super messy and clean up was a breeze!
