Valentine’s Day is one of our favorite holidays in my house! It’s a fun little holiday in the middle of winter that we can get excited about. To make it a little more fun, I started making these cream cheese puff pastries in the shape of hearts for my kids as a dessert.
Why You’ll Love These Cream Cheese Puff Pastry Hearts
You’ll love this Valentine’s Day cream cheese puff pastry recipe because it’s a simple, yet fancy looking dessert. This is a recipe you can have even the youngest helpers help make, and you can customize it to make it exactly how your family likes.
My family loves strawberry or cherry jam when we make this, but if your family likes grape or blueberry jam you could also substitute that in very easily.
You can add in some fresh fruit like sliced strawberries or blackberries to give it an extra burst of flavor and freshness. Or, add in some sprinkles or edible glitter to give it a little extra sparkle!
Not only is this recipe delicious, but it’s also a lot of fun to make! The puff pastry dough is so versatile and forgiving that even if you make a mistake while shaping the hearts, they will still come out beautiful and tasty.

How to Store Leftovers
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container and stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. I like to store them in a single layer so they don’t get squished or stuck together.
If you need to stack them to make them fit inside the container, I recommend putting a piece of parchment paper in between the layers to prevent them from sticking to each other.
When you’re ready to eat, you can reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds and enjoy! You could also use an air fryer to heat them up, and they’ll come out warm and crispy and minutes.
Recipe Variations
The nice thing about this recipe is that it is customizable. Here are some ways we’ve customized it over the years:
Try Different Toppings – we like to use a red jam for Valentine’s Day hearts, but you could also make these even more decadent by swirling in a little melted chocolate or Nutella. You also could try adding in some sliced fresh berries!
Top with Sprinkles or Drizzles – Add a few sprinkles or even a drizzle of chocolate sauce to make these heart treats even more festive.
Use Different Shapes – Get creative with this recipe by swapping out the heart cookie cutters for other shapes. You could keep it Valentine’s themed and do little cupids, arrows, clouds or make it completely different and make them more generic with shapes like stars, circles, or squares.

Cream Cheese Puff Pastry Hearts
Ingredients
- 1 puff pastry sheet, defrosted
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup raspberry or strawberry jam
- 1 egg beaten
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese with the sugar and vanilla extract, until smooth.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Using heart-shaped cookie cutters, cut out heart shapes. If you don’t have a heart cookie cutter, you could stencil out of cardboard and use that to cut out the hearts.
- Place the cut-out hearts onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each heart.
- Spread a layer of the cream cheese mixture onto each heart-shaped pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Spoon a dollop of raspberry or strawberry jam on top of the cream cheese filling on each pastry heart. Optionally swirl the jam with a toothpick or the back of a spoon to create a marble effect.
- Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack, about 5-10 minutes
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving (optional)
