What are Baked Onion Strings?

Baked onion strings are an easy side or topping that’s made with onion, spices and a little parmesan cheese. They’re easily made in the oven or air fryer!

Ingredients

To make this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 2 large sweet onions (Vidalia), cut into strips
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper

How to Make Crispy Onion Strings

  1. Preheat an oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with non-stick aluminum foil.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl combine the cut up onions, olive oil, parmesan cheese, paprika and crushed red pepper (you can add more crushed red pepper to increase the heat)
  3. Spread the onion mixture evenly on the baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes, then remove from oven and toss. Bake for another 5-8 minutes, or until onions are golden brown.

Can I Make This in the Air Fryer?

Yes! These can be air fried. To air fry, preheat your air fryer to 425 degrees and then cook onion strings for 4-5 minutes, or until golden browned.

How to Store Leftovers

Leftover onion strings can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.

I do not recommend freezing onion strings.
