The simplest recipes are the best recipes, in my opinion. I started making these skewers one holiday and they’ve become a family tradition ever since! My kids have even started helping!
What are Mini Caprese Skewers Made of?
Caprese skewers are like miniature versions of Caprese salad! They’re made up of the same ingredients, just made into an easy to eat handheld version.
They’re made up of:
- Basil
- Mozzarella
- Grape Tomatoes
The secret to making these irresistible bites is adding on a balsamic glaze. Balsamic glaze is a reduction of balsamic vinegar that results in a sweet and tangy sauce.

What’s the Difference Between Balsamic Glaze and Balsamic Vinegar?
Balsamic glaze and balsamic vinegar may sound similar, but they are actually quite different. Balsamic vinegar is made from grapes and has a slightly sweet and tangy flavor. On the other hand, balsamic glaze is a reduced version of balsamic vinegar that has a thicker consistency and a sweeter taste.

While both can be used in various dishes, balsamic glaze is often used as a finishing touch to add flavor and visual appeal. Balsamic vinegar, on the other hand, can be used in marinades, dressings or sauces.
Recipe Tips and Variations
Balsamic glaze can be served either drizzled on top of the skewers or served as a dip on the side.
If you want to add in a little more protein, you can add in a meat like salami to each bite.

If you can’t find balsamic glaze, you can also use balsamic vinegar.
This recipe is great to be made ahead! If you’re making ahead, make the caprese skewers first and refrigerate in an airtight container. When you’re ready to serve drizzle the balsamic glaze.
Caprese bites can be made up to a day in advance.
How to Store Leftovers
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. If you haven’t drizzled with balsamic they might last a little longer, but I found they get a little soggy after 2-3 days.
