I started making this shrimp appetizer for Christmas one year when I wanted to bring a delicious but protein packed appetizer. Shrimp is one of my favorite proteins and I love how versatile it is. It can be grilled, baked, sautéed, or fried, and it always turns out delicious. I like. to serve this with a bunch of appetizers, like smoked cream cheese or mini caprese skewers.

Plus, it cooks quickly which makes this dish perfect for when you’re short on time.

How Much Shrimp per person for an appetizer?

A good rule of thumb is to plan for about 4-6 shrimp per person when serving this appetizer. However, you may want to adjust the amount depending on the size of the shrimp and how many other dishes will be served alongside it.

It’s always better to have a little extra than not enough!

If serving this as a main dish instead of an appetizer, plan for 8-10 shrimp per person.

Serving Suggestions and Tips

This Garlic Parmesan Shrimp Appetizer is best served hot, so make sure to serve it right out of the oven.

If you’re not a fan of spicy food, you can skip adding the optional cayenne powder.

For an even more decadent dish, add some chopped bacon or crumbled feta cheese on top before baking.

If you’re not sure everyone at the party will like shrimp, you can also serve with a handful of snacks like crackers, pita chips, or veggies.

Ingredients

Roasted Garlic Dip

  • 1 garlic head
  • 1 T extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • optional: 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • sea salt and pepper to taste

Garlic-Parmesan Shrimp Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3-4 cloves garlic finely minced
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 3 tbsp Parmesan cheese finely grated
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 lbs jumbo shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley minched

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • To make the roasted garlic dip, slice a thin sliver from the head of garlic, just enough so the cloves are exposed. Drizzle the cloves with olive oil and place the whole bulb on a small piece of aluminum foil and wrap tightly. Place in the pre-heated oven and roast for 40 minutes, or until the garlic is tender and creamy. Remove from oven and set aside to cool slightly.
  • While the garlic is cooling, prepare the garlic shrimp seasoning by combining the olive oil, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, ground cumin, and grated Parmesan cheese in a large glass or other non-reactive bowl. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste.
  • Add shrimp to the bowl and toss to combine. Transfer the seasoned shrimp to the prepared baking sheet and place in pre-heated oven to roast for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the shrimp are just firm and pink. Do not overcook.
  • While the shrimp is roasting, squeeze roasted garlic cloves into a blender or food processor. Add sour cream, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, lemon zest, ground cumin, and cayenne pepper, if using, and blend until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste, and transfer to a small serving bowl.
  • Remove shrimp from oven and sprinkle with lemon juice and fresh parsley. Toss to combine when just cool enough to handle. Serve immediately with the creamy roasted garlic dip. Enjoy!
