Ingredients for Chocolate Covered Banana Pops

The most important ingredient you will need for this chocolate covered banana pop recipe is ripe bananas. You want bananas that have bright yellow peels with brown spots. Ripe bananas have more natural sugar so they will be sweet and oh-so tasty.

Once you have ripe bananas, you don’t need much else to make this easy dessert recipe. Here is a quick look at the other things you will need to make banana pops:

  • Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Coconut Oil
  • Sprinkles (pick sprinkles that match your party theme!)
  • Lollipop sticks

I like to use dark chocolate chips that have a nice, intense flavor. However, you can also use milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips.

You can also use candy melts to replace the chocolate chips and coconut oil. Candy melts are easy to use and always melt very smoothly. Plus, they come in tons of different colors so you can make your banana pops extra pretty.

However, I think that real chocolate tastes much better than candy melts. Of course, that is my opinion but I have tasted plenty of candy melts and I seriously like real chocolate better, especially when you are looking for a healthy, additive-free treat with no artificial colors or preservatives.

Make sure you get lollipop sticks that are at least 6 inches long. You want to have a stick that is big enough to go at least halfway into the banana and still have a stick to hold on to.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Bananas

Here is a quick look at how to make frozen chocolate covered bananas. You will quickly see how easy they are!

  1. Prepare: Peel and cut your ripe bananas. Line a tray with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Add sticks: Put a lollipop stick in each banana, inserting the stick at least halfway up into the banana. This will make the banana pop more sturdy.
  3. Melt the chocolate: Melt the chocolate in thirty-second increments in the microwave, stirring after each time you heat.
  4. Add the oil: Stir the coconut oil into the melted chocolate. This will make the chocolate smooth and better for dipping.
  5. Dip: Dip the bananas into the melted chocolate, coating them completely. Let the excess chocolate drip off of the banana then place it on the parchment lined tray.
  6. Decorate: Sprinkle the dipped bananas with sprinkles while the chocolate is wet. Place the tray in the freezer then enjoy the bananas once they are nice and cold!

Skip the sprinkles and drizzle the bananas with white or milk chocolate for a more elegant look. You can also pre-freeze the bananas before dipping them in the chocolate. This will make the chocolate harden faster and the banana pops will be ready to eat a little sooner.
