Healthi vs. WW: How Do the Programs Compare?
When I first started on my weight loss journey in 2012 I found that I had amazing luck with Weight Watchers (now WW).
They had a system called the Points Plus program that worked so well for me. I was able to lose over 30 lbs and still eat all the foods I loved!
It was a lifestyle program that really worked well for me.
However, I didn’t like that because I was a digital Weight Watchers member I had to pay monthly to have access to the app. At about $20 a month, it was getting expensive to stay on the plan!
And then a few months later, Weight Watchers completely changed the plan and I didn’t find I had as great of success as I previously did.

I slowly started to gain weight on the new plan, and found that I just didn’t have time to dedicate anymore to learning new programs.
It seemed like as soon as I’d figure out a plan for their new program, they’d roll out a new program and I’d have to relearn it all over again!
I started to look at alternatives and that’s when I came across Healthi.
What is Healthi?
Healthi – or formally known as iTrackBites – is an app that has all the old Weight Watcher Plans.
It’s similar to the WW app where you can enter in the nutritional information of food, and it’ll calculate the points for you, depending on which plan you’re on.
When you sign up, you take a quiz on what your goals are and eating habits, and Healthi recommends a plan for you.
If you don’t like the plan, you can always change which one you’re on.
Plan Comparison
Healthi offers a few different plans (all are included in the membership):
Better Balance – this plan is based off the WW Freestyle program. Points are based on calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein. This plan includes zero point foods like vegetables, fruits, and proteins.
Sugar Smart – this plan is based off the WW Beyond the Scale. Points are based on calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein.
This plan includes zero point foods like vegetables and fruits.
Carb Conscious – this plan is based off the WW PointsPlus program.
Points are based on protein, total fat, carbs, and fiber.
This plan includes zero point foods like vegetables and fruit.
Conquer Cravings – this plan is based off WW 123 Success/Turnaround/Momentum program. Points are based on calories, fat and fiber (capped at 4g).
Zero point foods for this plan are vegetables.
Calorie Command – this isn’t based on a WW program, but is just straight calorie counting
Keeping Keto – this isn’t based on a WW program, but is based on Keto. Net Carbs are the focus metric.
The program that I used to love with Weight Watchers was the PointsPlus program (about 2012-2014ish) so that’s the program I decided to choose.

App Comparison
When comparing the apps themselves, I’ve found that the Healthi App and Weight Watchers App are both easy to use.
They both have Point calculators, huge databases of food and restaurants, and can both connect to Apple Healthkit to have Activity Points automatically tracked.
Weight Watchers does win in the area of teaching about the new programs.
I felt like with Healthi there wasn’t really any introduction or orientation inside the app on the programs (there are super helpful Facebook communities however that can do this).
Weight Watchers seemed to guide me through the new program a little better though.
The Healthi app does win, however, with their meal plan section.
Healthi has 5-7 day meal plan ideas that I found to be really helpful and a jumpstart for me. I also liked that users could even create their own and share with other members.
I’m always looking for ideas for new meal plans so this was great to see!

I also like with Healthi that you can not only track points, but also show your calories and macros. One thing that has always concerned me with Weight Watchers (especially since the introduction of zero point foods) was that the plan wouldn’t have me eating enough.
With Healthi, I can easily see how many calories I’ve consumed and what types, so then I can make better decisions when I’m supplementing with my zero point foods.
Weight Watchers doesn’t have any calorie or macro information in the app so in the past if you wanted this info you would have to double track, which got really annoying.

Price Comparison
In terms of pricing, Healthi by far wins. A yearlong membership to Healthi is only $29, while WW ranges in pricing depending on which promotion you sign up for.
The lowest I’ve seen WW plans start at are $13/month and then can go all the way up to $40/month.
The plan I was on was about $20 a month (every now and then I’d be able to sign up under a promotional price to bring it down), and that ended up being $240 a year.
I have heard that some Healthi coaches (found in the Facebook groups) also offer an extra $5 off coupon so you can potentially get the app for only $24 a year.
Community Comparison
Both Weight Watchers and Healthi have very active communities, but I find Healthi tends to be more active on Facebook while Weight Watchers is active in the app itself.
Healthi does have message boards and community groups within the app, but the ones I’ve joined aren’t very active.
The best place to connect with other members seems to be Facebook, and there are even subgroups for each of the individual plans.

Healthi Review
After trying Weight Watchers for the millionth time and not having results, I decided to sign up for Healthi app again.
I think the Weight Watchers program can work, but with all the zero point foods it just doesn’t seem to work as well for me.
I also don’t have as much time as I used to,so learning a new plan and program is hard for me.
I’m a mom to two little kids and I need easy!
I used Healthi before I had my second daughter and loved the app (this was back when it was iTrackBites), and have recommitted again to finish losing the last of the baby weight now that my marathon training is over.
Whenever I’m in the process of losing weight (especially the last 10-15 lbs) I find that I have more success following a plan like WW or Healthi because it doesn’t feel restrictive.
When I count macros, I start to feel restricted – especially in my carbs- because I’m used to having a higher limit.
When I was training for a marathon my carbs would be about 260g a day, but when I’m trying to lose weight it’s only 100-150g.
Mentally, seeing this huge decrease messes with me and automatically makes me feel deprived and hungry.
However with Healthi, I don’t feel that way. I’m not exactly sure why this is – it’s probably more mental than anything, but it works for me!
I also like that while I don’t focus on macros, I can still see how much I’m eating and make sure that I do get in enough calories each day.
Overall I really like Healthi and think it’s a great alternative to WW. Not only is it cheaper, but it also offers me the old WW plans that I’m used to and love.
What I Eat in a Day
I’ve been on Healthi for a few weeks now, and have figured out the meal plan that works for me! Here’s an example of what I eat in a day:
Breakfast: Breakfast sandwich made of Light English Muffin, Egg Whites, Reduced Fat Cheese, 1 Slice of Turkey Bacon, and black coffee with a scoop of collagen
Lunch: 2 Chicken Taco “Cupcakes”
Dinner: Crock Pot Pasta (Cheese Ravioli, Ground Beef, Tomato Sauce, and Cheese)
Snacks: Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, Apples, Grapes, Strawberries, Skinny Pop Popcorn, Picky Bars
Final Thoughts
I would recommend Healthi to anyone looking for a Weight Watchers alternative or access to old WW plans.
I think the app is easy to use, the plans are great, and it’s so much cheaper than WW.
While you won’t have access to the newest Weight Watcher plans, you will have access to plans they no longer offer, which to me works better.

I am a 70 year old active grandma who averages 70,000 steps a week and lost 15 pounds twice through Weight Watchers at work to make Lifetime WW. Like you, I was frustrated being forced to learn new plans at WW, as well as high price for digital only service. I do miss the WW recipes, and have found the Healthi podcasts seem geared towards priorities of younger people, rather than health. Bottom line, I am successfully losing weight on Healthi and would choose it over WW even at the same price because I like the plan and can sync with my Fitbit.
