Kitchen Hack: How to Save Tomato Paste (And Use it Later)
Tomato paste is one of those ingredients that I love but hate. I love the rich flavor it brings to my recipe, but I always felt like I was being so wasteful because I’d only use 1-2 tablespoons of it at a time.
Then I thought – what if I tried to freeze the leftover tomato paste? After a few tries I found a way to perfectly freeze the leftovers and now a can of tomato paste can last me a few months!

How to Freeze Tomato Paste
- Lay out a sheet of saran wrap (I like to use Glad Press ‘n Seal but any brand works). On the sheet, place dollops of tomato paste evenly spread out – I like to make them about 1 tablespoon since that’s generally how much my recipes call for, but you can make them smaller or larger.
- Cut the saran wrap into little squares with kitchen scissors. Fold over to cover the tomato paste. Repeat for each dollop.
- Place the dollops in the freezer bag and remove all air. Store in the freezer for up to a year
