What You Need to Know About the Peloton Digital App

When my Orangetheory studio closed last year I was forced to figure out how to stay in shape while staying at home.

I had tried at home fitness DVDs and Beachbody workouts in the past, but after a month or two I’d get bored of watching the same workouts and hearing the same kids bop type music.

I kept getting ads for the Peloton app in my Facebook feed so I decided to give it a try. Within a week I was hooked! I quickly got started with Peloton and am so glad I did.

In this post I’ll go over everything you need to know about the Peloton app, features, how it’s different than the bike membership, and more!

How the Peloton App Works

The app can be downloaded on your smartphone, tablet or streamed through a tablet or computer. Once you sign up you’ll get instant access to Peloton’s entire library of workouts and be able to take live classes.

Update: Peloton recently updated the digital app and moved a few features around! While the content is still there, its’s slightly different on how to find it. Here’s a recap of all the changes.

Peloton Digital App Review

I absolutely love this app. After I did my first workout – a Jess Sims bootcamp – I was hooked!

The workout was one of the toughest workouts I had ever done at home and I had so much fun.

A few months after using the app I ended up cancelling my Orangetheory membership completely and doing Peloton workouts exclusively.

I now have a bike but I still use the digital app when I want to do a treadmill workout (I use it with my Proform treadmill), outdoor run or when I’m traveling.

I’ve found the app is a little buggy lately when it comes to live classes so I prefer to do on demand classes instead, but otherwise the app is great!

Peloton Subscription Options

The Peloton Digital app is available on a monthly membership for .95 and can be cancelled anytime.

What Devices Can Use the Peloton App

The Peloton app is available on iOS, Android and streaming devices like Apple TV, Roku and the Amazon Fire Stick.

The workouts can also be streamed through your computer or tablet on the Peloton site.

Do I Need Peloton Equipment to Use the App?

You don’t need any equipment to use the Peloton app! There are workouts that are body weight only (they’re easy to filter to), as well as you can use the workouts with your existing equipment.

I use my old Proform treadmill for all the treadmill and bootcamp classes and it works great!

How Many Memberships are Included

The Peloton digital membership includes access for 1 profile.

You could always share a membership with someone else in your household, but their classes would count towards your stats and milestones.

How to Get the Peloton App For Free

If you’re new to the app, you can often get a free trial when you first download the app.

The trial can range from a week free all the way to a month free!

What’s The Difference Between the Peloton App and the Bike?

The main difference between the 2 membership options is the availability of metrics. On the digital app, you won’t have access to Bike and Tread metrics like resistance, cadence and output.

The Peloton Bike membership also includes unlimited household profiles while the digital includes only 1.

Peloton Referral Program with the Digital App

Unfortunately, Digital App users are not eligible for the Peloton Referral program.

You need to have a bike or treadmill in order to get referral credits.

Peloton Century Club Shirt and Digital Members

As of August 31,2021 Peloton is no longer sending free century club shirts to digital members.

They’re keeping this perk as one for All Access (a.k.a bike and treadmill memberships) only.

Is the Peloton App Worth It?

The Peloton app is definitely woth it! It includes a wide variety of classes and instructors so there really is something for everyone.

I highly recommend checking out the Peloton Digital App.

  1. Hey, thanks for the info! I was hoping you could answer this question for me. I use the Peloton app on a non-Peloton bike. While on vacation I tried out a real Peloton bike and loved it! It was a dream compared to the one I have been riding. I am considering purchasing a real Peloton bike. Can I continue using my app subscription on the Peloton bike, the 12.99 a month version? I understand the differences between the app and the bike membership. Will I be able to login on the bike and continue with my 12.99/month subscription? Basically I just use the cadence and resistance numbers and that’s all I need. I don’t do live classes and don’t care about the leaderboard. Thanks for any advice you can share!!

    1. You technically could get the bike and use the $12.99 subscription, but you’d have to use a separate device (like a tablet or your phone). I have heard of members doing this and not having a problem!
