What Are Peloton In-Person Classes?

Peloton in-person classes are a new feature offered by Peloton. Before the pandemic, Peloton was an in-person cycling and tread studio. However, during the pandemic, they changed and became an at home streaming workout while the studios had to close.

Now Peloton in-person classes are back! 

Like pre-pandemic days, you can take live classes with instructors in the Peloton New York and Peloton London studios. These classes are filmed live, so are the same classes you take live at home or on demand.

This is a cool feature because if you go to a live class, you can then retake it when you get home!

Peloton offers a variety of classes in person. Almost every class that you see offered on the bike and tread is offered live in person.

To book an in-person class, you need to go to their website studio page here

Booking opens six weeks ahead of the class, so check early and often for classes to appear. Classes fill up really fast so you’ll want to try to get into class as soon as you can!

If a class fills up, they do offer a waitlist so that is also an option.

Peloton in-person classes are held at Peloton Studios in New York City and London. 

The studios are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and offer an immersive workout experience. Each studio has its own unique design and atmosphere, with amenities like showers and lockers available for use. 

Instructors are also available after class for meet and greets and photos!

Safety Measures and Guidelines

To participate in the live classes, there are a few requirements that Peloton has. Currently:

Cycling: All participants must be: (1) between 4′11″ and 6′5″, (2) under 297 pounds, and (3) at least 16 years old.
Yoga & Meditation & Strength: All participants must be at least 16 years old.
Tread: All participants must be: (1) between 4′11″ and 6′4″, (2) between 105 and 300 pounds, and (3) at least 16 years old.

If participants are under the age of 18, parents do also need to go to sign a waiver.

Master Your Schedule

Peloton operates on a strict timetable to ensure their live broadcast runs smoothly. You’ll need to check-in 45 minutes before class starts, and the studio doors open 30 minutes prior. 

If you aren’t checked in when the doors open, your spot could be given away. Once the doors close 15 minutes before the class, no latecomers are permitted. 

My advice? Plan ahead and arrive early – it’ll make your experience stress-free, and you might even have time for a quick chat with fellow Peloton enthusiasts.

Dress for Success

When it comes to attire, Peloton encourages comfort, functionality, and a touch of personal style. Remember, your outfit should be family-friendly and non-distracting. Sports bras are okay, but tops should be kept on throughout the class. 

One important tip: Glitter is not allowed.

Respect the Quiet Zone

During the live class, it’s vital to minimize distractions. That means your mobile phone should be silent or switched off as soon as studio checks commence.

To fully embrace the Peloton class spirit, I recommend saving the conversations for after the workout and focusing on the energy in the room. You’ll get time afterward to take pictures!

They’ve got you covered with most of the essentials. However, knowing what to pack for your specific class can help streamline your experience. Here’s my take on what to bring for each class type:

Cycling Class Essentials

When you’re attending a cycling class, you can travel light! Peloton provides complimentary rental shoes which are perfect for newbies and seasoned riders alike. However, if you have a personal preference for your own shoes, go ahead and bring them. 

Just ensure they’re compatible with LOOK Delta clips to fit the Peloton bikes (the shoes that come witht the bikes). 

A water bottle to stay hydrated is always a good idea too.

Tread Class Checklist

For those of you hitting the tread class, prepare to work up a sweat! Your running shoes are your best friends here – make sure you choose a comfortable pair that offers good support. If you’re taking a tread bootcamp class, you don’t need to worry about weights.

 Peloton will place recommended weights on your mat, but feel free to swap these out during the pre-production checks if you have a specific preference.

Yoga Class Must-Haves

Peloton makes your yoga journey as smooth as possible. You don’t need to worry about lugging mats, blankets, blocks, bolsters, or straps to the studio – they provide all these props at no extra cost. My advice? Just bring yourself in comfortable yoga attire, and perhaps a water bottle to stay refreshed throughout your practice.

Remember, while the Peloton studio is equipped to offer everything you need for your workout, personal essentials such as a water bottle, towel, and perhaps a small snack for post-workout energy are always worth packing.

While I’ve covered the essentials to pack for your Peloton live class, it’s equally important to know what to leave behind.

The Peloton studio strives to maintain a smooth, hassle-free environment for everyone, and with this in mind, there are some items best left at your hotel or home.

Luggage and Suitcases

Even though the studio offers convenient lockers, they simply can’t accommodate everything. These lockers are ideal for typical workout bags and weekender style bags but aren’t designed to handle larger items like luggage or suitcases. 

To keep the locker area accessible and tidy for everyone, it’s best to leave bulky items at your hotel or safe at home.

Items Requiring Staff Supervision

Also, remember that the Peloton staff at the desk is unable to hold onto any items for you. This policy helps ensure that staff can focus on providing all attendees with an excellent studio experience rather than managing personal belongings.

In short, when packing for your Peloton live class, keep it simple and light. Stick to the essentials required for your specific class and any small personal items you might need.

First and foremost, secure your spot in your preferred class. The Peloton in-person classes can fill up quickly, and you wouldn’t want to plan your entire trip only to find out that the class you wanted to take is full. 

Booking your class is the first step to anchoring your trip plans. 

It’s as easy as visiting studio.onepeloton.com and choosing the class that best fits your schedule and fitness goals.

Secure Your Accommodation and Travel

Once you have your class confirmed, it’s time to book your travel and accommodation. When it comes to choosing a hotel, look for one that is conveniently located near the Peloton studio at 370 10th Avenue. 

Not only will this make your commute to class easier, but it will also give you a chance to explore the vibrant neighborhood of Hudson Yards.

When booking flights, trains, or other long-distance travel, make sure you have plenty of buffer time around your class schedule. The last thing you want is to be stressing about catching a flight right after an invigorating workout!

I strongly recommend planning to arrive at least a day before your class and departing at least a day after. This approach gives you plenty of time to acclimate, relax, and soak up the NYC atmosphere and grab a Levain cookie. 

You wouldn’t want to rush to the studio after a long flight or drive. 

Equally, after your class, you’ll appreciate the opportunity to rest, rejuvenate, and relish your Peloton experience without the pressure of immediate travel.
