How to Pause a Peloton Workout
Last year during Peloton Homecoming they mentioned that they were rolling out. anew Pause button for workouts. This might’ve been my all time favorite announcement because this was the feature that I was missing the most going from a digital user to a bike user.
This apparently is a really controversial topic in the Official Peloton Facebook group with arguments on both sides if it’s a good idea to add a pause button.
In this post I’ll go over the pause button and how to pause a workout on the Peloton digital app, bike, and tread!

What is a Pause Button?
First off- what exactly is a Pause Button and what would it do? The Pause button would allow users to pause workouts at any point. In the digital app, this only works on On-Demand Classes and it allows users to pause the workout and return to it later.
Benefits of a Pause Button
One big benefit of a pause button is that it allows you to stop a workout and return to it later. As a mom, I really love this feature because often times I’m doing a workout during my kid’s nap times and sometimes need to stop to check on them.
Downside of a Pause Button
Users that are against the pause button say that it’s not fair and takes away from Peloton feeling like a live studio class.
While I understand this argument, I don’t think it’s fully accurate since not everyone does Peloton to “get a live studio class feeling”. Some of us – like me – use Peloton because it’s convenient for our schedule. I hardly have time to make any of the live classes and mostly do on demand because of this!
Those that are looking for a true class feel, you can still do the live classes. Those won’t have a pause button so it’s just like a studio experience.
How to Pause a Workout on the Peloton Bike and Tread
Unfortunately, the pause button still isn’t available on the Peloton bike or tread. Peloton if you’re reading this – PLEASE release it soon!
Peloton has finally released the pause button for the bike and tread! It’s still being rolled out so don’t worry if you don’t have access to it just yet. I got mine on my Bike this week and some of my friends are still getting it on theirs. The tread is also slowly rolling out so if you don’t have it yet, don’t worry!
Bike Pause
Pausing a bike workout is really easy to do! All you have to do is press on the middle of the screen and a pause button will appear. Hold down the button and the workout will pause for up to 60 minutes. The pause button will only appear in on-demand workouts and not on live classes.
It’s nice that Peloton added in that you need to press down to pause a workout so you don’t accidentally hit it when you touch the screen.
Something to note with the pause button is that if you do use it, you will be excluded from the leaderboard. You’ll still show up with your output and move up it as the workout goes on, but instead of a ranking next to your leaderboard name there will be a dash.
How to Pause a Workout on the Digital App
The Pause Button is still live on the digital app! To pause a workout, just click on the screen and it’ll pause the workout. To resume, click again and the workout will continue where you left off.
The pause button only works during on demand classes at this time.
Final Thoughts
Peloton announced the pause button a few months ago and I’m really hoping it’ll be released soon! Digital users are able to use the feature but those with a Peloton bike or tread will still have to wait a bit.
