A Complete Photowall Mural Review
One of my goals the past few years has been to spruce up my house, and one of the big projects I wanted to get accomplished first was my daughter’s bedroom. I had the perfect idea in mind—a beautiful mural to brighten up her room and tie all her decorations together.
After researching and looking around, I realized how big of a project this might end up being. I’m not the best DIYer , and I knew that creating a mural from scratch would be impossible.
That’s when I found Photowall, a company specializing in custom sized printed wall murals.
In this post I’ll share with you my experience ordering, installing and the final results of our Photowall mural!

What is Photowall?
First of all – what is Photowall?
Photowall is a company that makes murals and wallpapers. The cool thing about Photowall is that the murals and wallpaper are custom printed to whatever dimensions you need, making the mural fit almost any space you want to put them on.
Finding the Right Mural
I had an idea of what type of mural I wanted for my daughter’s room, but wasn’t exactly sure what it would look like. Photowall has an enormous selection of murals and wallpapers that I could choose from, so I took my time finding the perfect one for her room.
They also broke it down into types of murals, and had a whole section dedicated to kids rooms.
After searching through a few pages I found the perfect rainbow mural for her room!
Ordering
Once I decided on the rainbow mural, it was time to do the wall measurements!
Photowall had a popup come up asking for width and length of the wall. They also had me add in an extra 2.5 – 4 inches to the measurement just to cover any margin of error.
Atfer I entered in the measurements of my daughter’s wall, the website brought me to a cropping tool so I could select exactly the section of the mural I wanted printed. It was really easy to do and I was able to get it perfectly cropped.
Once the cropping was done, I was given an option to choose between Standard and Premium wallpaper. The biggest difference between the two is that the Premium wallpaper is scrape resistant, can be cleaned with cleaning products, has a matte finish and doesn’t reflect sun.
I decided to go with the premium wallpaper because I have no idea what to expect with my daughter and her room, so if I have (or more when I have) to clean it, I know it can be cleaned easily.
After selecting the type of wallpaper I wanted, it was time to check out! Checkout was super easy and I was quoted 2-4 days delivery.
Wallpaper Delivery
Sure enough, 2 days after ordering my wallpaper it arrived! It arrived in 8 rolled up sheets, and included wallpaper paste to mix.
One thing I do wish I had paid a little more attention to is ordering a wallpaper kit. I had never hung wallpaper before so didn’t realized I needed more tools than just the wallpaper paste. Photowall does include a small section with the option to add it on, but I totally missed it during checkout.
My husband and I tried to buy a wallpaper kit at Home Depot but unfortunately they were completely out, and Amazon surprisingly had a delay on delivering them. We ended up ordering this one from Amazon and just had to be patient waiting for it to arrive.
A few weeks after ordering it, the kit arrived and it was time to install our mural!

Installing Photowall
My husband was a huge help (a.k.a he did pretty much all of it) and was able to get the wallpaper completely up.
Originally we thought this was going to be a huge project, but to our surprise it ended up being a really easy project! We started by mixing together the wallpaper paste, then waiting 5 minutes for it to set.

Once the 5 minutes was up, it was time to hang the wallpaper!

The sheets came in 8 sections and were really easy to hang. Based on the design my husband did have to work a little to line up the rainbow, but it proved to be an easier task than we thought.
After hanging each section he’d smooth it out with the brushes he got in the Amazon kit, and cut off any extra in each section, he’d move on to the next section.

All in all, hanging all 8 pieces of wallpaper only took about 2 hours to complete! I was amazed at not only how easy it was overall, but what a difference the mural made in her room.
The room went from looking bland and boring to a bright, fun rainbow filled wall that was perfect for her! I’m so glad we decided to go with Photowall and give her room the extra edge it needed.

Photowall Review
We’ve had my daughter’s Photowall installed for a few weeks now and are really impressed with it. The wallpaper looks amazing, and is really easy to clean which was a huge plus for us.
We were really happy with the whole experience from start to finish, and would definitely recommend Photowall to anyone looking for unique wall coverings! It was one of the best decisions we’ve made for her room and it really made a huge difference.
I was impressed with just how easy it was ordering Photowall, and that the online calculator was perfect for figuring out how much wallpaper I needed. The delivery was super fast, and the product is great quality.

Tips and Tricks
After installing our Photowall we did learn a few tips and tricks along the way.
Heat will impact drying
We installed our mural during the winter, so the walls were cold. We didn’t even think that as the wall’s heated up, it would affect the wallpaper drying process.
Thankfully the wallpaper didn’t shrink too much but that’s one thing to think about if you’re installing in the extreme weather.
Order a wallpaper tool kit!
A wallpaper tool kit is essential and will make the mural look perfect. Surprisingly, not a lot of local stores (at least where we are in Minnesota) have them easily available. Save yourself some time and order one when you order the mural.
A little wallpaper paste goes a long way!
When we first mixed the wallpaper paste, my husband thought we’d need more. However, as we went along we quickly realized that a little wallpaper paste goes a long way . Don’t worry if you think the initial amount isn’t enough. In most cases it’s more than enough!
Final Thoughts
We’re really happy with how our daughter’s rainbow Photowall turned out! We were hesitant at first to take on such a big project, but it was surprisingly simple and made her room look amazing.
If you’re looking for an easy way to add some color and fun to your home or space, definitely consider ordering a Photowall .

Their website makes ordering really easy, the product is high quality, and it makes a huge difference in whatever space you’re decorating.
We would definitely order from them again!
