A great way to maintain (or start) your fitness level is by joining outdoor fitness classes. For some, it’s much easier to get motivated when they have a class to get to versus the home workout that tends to get pushed farther and farther back. The benefits of this fitness trend are abundant–you get to work out with others looking to achieve similar goals, get your daily dose of vitamin D, breathe in some fresh air, and reduce that ever-building stress level!

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

If you’re not into doing daily reps and the same cardio, you must dive into HIIT or high-intensity interval training. HIIT training keeps you motivated by showing you results–and quickly. It’s incredibly efficient, burns more fat than traditional cardio workouts, and boosts cardiovascular health. You’ll never feel bored with the short bursts of training followed by brief rests–this is how HIIT keeps you motivated and craving more.

YouTube Videos

You don’t need to find a personal trainer to get fit and stay motivated. Just turn on YouTube! There are tons of motivational workout videos with trained professionals that can get you feeling your best. The perks? It’s free, there are tons of styles to choose from, and they can easily be worked into your schedule whenever you find it convenient.

Functional Strength Training

If you want to strengthen all your muscles in one workout, functional strength training is the way to go. This works by incorporating all muscle groups into one exercise. This can include weights, HIIT, cardio, and lower and upper body exercises. The best part is you can stay motivated because the chances of injury are extremely low. It corrects any muscle imbalances to keep you in tip-top shape. You’ll also burn more fat, strengthen your core, and build better endurance.

Bodyweight Training

You don’t need a home gym or membership to stay motivated this summer. You have everything you need right where you need it! These strength training exercises use your weight against gravity resistance to get your body in shape fast. If you’re new to fitness training, these exercises will improve your strength, help your balance, and get you motivated to move on to other workouts!

Mind and Body Practices

In our chaotic lives, sometimes we need a moment to slow down, catch our breath, and reconnect. Incorporating yoga, tai chi, and pilates can reconnect your body, mind, and spirit. These fitness trends keep you in shape and motivated to improve. You may think these are easy, but depending on the pose, it takes some strength! This is also a fantastic time to get the littles involved with some Mommy & Me Yoga classes.

Grab Your Bike

What’s better than hitting the bike trail on a beautiful summer morning? Not only are you getting your fitness needs met, but you get to enjoy the nature around you. Biking uses most of your large muscle groups without making you feel exhausted. You also get some fresh air while raising your heart rate and boosting your lung endurance.

Dance Workouts

No dance skills are required. This trendy exercise regime has existed for ages but is still just as popular as ever. Why? The bottom line is the improved muscle tone and strength you receive from these fun workouts is impressive. You’ll feel amazing afterward, and dancing is a well-known mood booster! You’ll also increase your cardiovascular health and help prevent osteoporosis, all while honing in those wicked dance moves–or not.

Walking Pads and Elevated Desks

Just because it’s summertime doesn’t mean we get the chance to skip work or complete daily tasks–quite the opposite. A newer trend has emerged to help your fitness levels while you sign up the kids for soccer or work on that new proposal. Getting your steps in while working is one way to have your cake and eat it, too (unless you’re on that summertime diet).

Hire a Virtual Personal Trainer

Gone are the days of having to drive to the gym, hire a personal trainer, and meet at the same time every week. In today’s modern age, it’s all about the internet. So jump on that bandwagon and hire a virtual personal trainer. Nothing will keep you motivated like a professional reminding you how strong you are and how far you have come–along with some motivational emails or texts after eating that big slice of pizza.

Enjoy the Outdoors

If you live where winter tends to hurt your face, there’s no better motivation than warm weather to get you out and about. Take a hike, roller skate, do the yard work, or plant a garden. Sometimes, we forget that these little things significantly improve our overall fitness. This is an excellent opportunity to get the kids outside too! Stroll to the park, run and play, and get involved. Your children will forever be grateful, and so will your body.

Mindfulness Workouts

You know you need to work your muscles and exercise your brain–right? Practicing mindfulness can bring physical and emotional fitness together, giving you an overall mood boost and a clear mindset. You can practice this fitness trend by learning meditation or expressing mindfulness when walking or just moving your body.

Aquatic Exercising

Everyone’s favorite summertime pastime is heading off to the pool. Swimming allows you to work harder and burn more calories and fat while being softly cradled by its waves. It’s great for anyone who experiences joint pain or has recently had an injury and wants to get motivated again. You can also check out different classes that can get you moving even more in the water, doubling your motivation and fitness success.

Fitness Challenges

Fitness challenges keep tons of people motivated for longer periods of time, mainly because there is an endpoint. Things like 28-day challenges can keep us counting on ourselves to show up because it’s only 28 days–right? And guess what? When you show up for this fitness trend, you’re bound to get results because you decided to show up daily. Now, that’s a fantastic opportunity for much-needed motivation!

Recovery and Regeneration

This fitness trend focuses on the recovery and regeneration of our bodies after putting them through any type of physical activity that is out of the norm. This can look like full-body stretching, yoga, meditation, proper rest, hydration, and proper nutrition. This is a great way to get the whole household in a healthier, happier atmosphere. After all, proper nutrition is the first step in your fitness journey.
