5 Important Things to Consider Before Using the Healthi App

There are so many weight loss apps out there, you might be wondering if the Healthi App is worth it? I’ve been doing hands on reviews of different apps for years and in this post I’ll share with you my experience using the Healthi App.

I used to get so frustrated whenever Weight Watchers would change their plans. It seemed like right when I’d find a plan that would work for me and my weight loss goals, they’d go and change it!

When my friend told me about Healthi I was really excited. I downloaded it the same day and became hooked! I was finally able to get my old WW plans back.

What is Healthi App?

Healthi is an app that helps you achieve your weight loss goals by offering different programs. One of the key features is that if offers different Weight Watchers plans available. In the past, these plans were only accessible through the WW app and only the new plan would be available.

Whenever the WW program would change plans – which is usually annually – the new program would make the app completely change and points values would change.  This would really impact weight loss results because some members (like me!) wouldn’t have as much success on all programs.

Healthi was developed to be able to offer all WW plans so members could choose which plan they wanted to follow.

As a member of WW for many years, it was always a big issue whenever WW would change plans.  Not only would you have to adapt recipes to try to fit into the new plans, but some plans just don’t work for all members.

I prefer the old Points Plus version of WW from 2012 because it helps me moderate my carbs, but still allows me to have them where some of the newer plans don’t really allow for many carbs.

Healthi App Review

I’ve been using the Healthi App for a few years and have overall had a great experience with it.

When you first sign up, you’re brought through a quiz that asks different things like your current weight, goal weight, and activity level to determine which plan would be best for you. This is great because it allows you to choose the plan that fits your lifestyle and dietary needs.

The app also has a feature where you can switch plans at any time, giving you flexibility if you find one plan isn’t working for you.

If you know of an old WW plan you’d like to do you can also select that plan in the Healthi app. This is a great feature for longtime WW members who may prefer previous plans (and one of the main reasons why I chose Healthi!).

Once you have your plan set, you’re ready to go! You can start tracking your food intake and activity just like on the WW app.

tracking options on healthi app

The basic Healthi app is a little limited in features. You can track foods, but if you want access to the food database, restaurant database, and other premium features, you’ll need to upgrade the app.

Pros

Here are a few of my favorite features of the Healthi App:

Recipe Builder

One of my favorite features is the ability to create your own recipes and calculate their points value. This was always a struggle for me on the WW app as point values would often change with each plan update.

With Healthi, I can easily input my ingredients and serving size and it will calculate the points for me. If I ever switch plans, Healthi will automatically adjust all my saved recipes to convert them into the new points plan I’m on.

It’s also really easy to share your recipes with friends, families and other app members as well!

Barcode Scanner

The app also has a barcode scanner, making it easy to track store-bought items at the grocery store. It also has an extensive database of foods and meals from popular restaurants, making it easier to track when eating out. I’ve found the database is extremely accurate and easy to use.

I love that when you go out to eat, you can filter to the restaurant and then filter to how many points you have left for the day, and it will show you all the meals within that point range. It’s a game-changer when trying to stay on track while dining out!

Physical Activity Tracking

Another great feature of Healthi is its integration with fitness trackers like Fitbit and Apple Watch. This allows for automatic tracking of your daily activity and exercise. You can also set personal goals and challenges for yourself within the app to stay motivated and on track with your fitness journey.

If you have another watch – like a Garmin – you can also have that synced with Apple Health and it’ll also automatically pull in your steps and workouts.

Double Tracking

One of the biggest benefits in my opinion with Healthi is the ability to track points AND macros and calories. When WW started introducing plans that have 0 point foods, one of the biggest issues  was people started overeating on those 0 point foods.

With Healthi, you can easily track points for your main meals and snacks, while also keeping an eye on your overall calorie and macro intake. This has been extremely helpful for me in maintaining a balanced and healthy approach to my nutrition.

Social

Healthi also offers a social aspect where you can connect with friends and family who are also using the app. This makes it easy to have accountability partners and support each other in your wellness goals.

You can even join groups and challenges to further enhance your motivation and connection with others. Healthi also has many Healthi Coaches that are very active and always ready to interact and help.

Price

The price of Healthi can’t be beat! The app is $44 a year, which is a lot cheaper than WW’s $20/month plan. Outside of the annual fee, there aren’t any other in-app purchases you’ll need to make.

Cons

While there are a lot of pros to the app, there are some cons to take into consideration:

Premium Version

To get most of the features, you’ll need the premium version of the app. The free version is extremely limited and doesn’t offer much beyond basic tracking. However, the premium version does have a free trial period so you can see if it’s worth the investment for you.

User Created Meal Plans

One of the promising features of Healthi is that they have premade meal plans available. However they’re not very accurate at the time being. I found that some of the recipes would include ingredients that weren’t  listed in the ingredients list and others had incorrect serving sizes.

I think the issue is that they’re user created and not verified by Healthi, so hopefully this is something that will improve with updates to the app.

Inconsistent Advice on Activity Points and Weeklies

This isn’t unique to Healthi, but similar to on WW, there’s inconsistent advice if you should use or ignore your weekly and activity points.

Some members have had really great success using their activity points and weeklies while others don’t. It’s ultimately a personal trial and error to see what works best for you and your lifestyle.

Is Healthi Worth it?

Overall, I think the Healthi App is the perfect alternative to Weight Watchers app and a great tool for anyone on a weight loss journey. It’s much cheaper than WW, and I love that I can track both my points and macros in one place.  By tracking both my points and macros, I’m able to make sure my eating is balanced and I’m making good food choices.

While there are some cons to consider, they’re minor and can likely be improved with future updates. If you’re looking for a more affordable option for tracking your health and an easy to follow weight loss plan, I highly recommend giving Healthi a try!

Healthi Plans

Currently, the different plans offered are:

  • Better Balance –  based on calories, saturated fat, sugar, protein and include 200+ 0 point foods (Premium Plan Only). This is their version of WW Freestyle program
  • Keeping Keto – High fat, moderate protein and very low carbs (Premium Plan only). This is their version of tracking Keto and net carbs.
  • Sugar Smart – Based on calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein. This is their version of the WW Smart program
  • Conquer Cravings – Calories, Fat and Fiber. This is the old WW Classic program
  • Carb Conscious – Protein, Carbs, Fat and Fiber. This is their version of the old  Points Plus Program
  • Calorie Command – This plan tracks your calorie intake.

Healthi Promo Codes

Healthi doesn’t offer a lot of discounts or promo codes during the year, but usually around the holidays they’ll offer a Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal.

The best way to find their current promo code is on their website.

iTrackBites

A few years ago the company changed the name from iTrackBites to Healthi. The plans all have slightly different names, but are similar to what the old iTrackBites used to offer.

One thing that did stay the same is the term “bites”. Bites is their term for points, just like how Weight Watchers uses “points”.

Healthi vs. Weight Watchers

There are several key differences between Healthi and Weight Watchers. First and foremost, the cost of Healthi is significantly cheaper than WW. While Weight Watchers offers a variety of plans with varying prices, they generally tend to be more expensive than Healthi’s plans.

Additionally, as mentioned earlier, Healthi allows you to track both points and macros in one app, whereas Weight Watchers requires you to use multiple apps for this.

WW focuses on points only and if you’d like to track macros or calories you’ll need to use another app for that. WW also only offers one plan at a time , whereas Healthi offers a variety of plans to choose from based on your personal goals and preferences.

Another difference is the community aspect. While Weight Watchers has in-person meetings and an online community for support, Healthi only offers a social media platform for its users. This may be a drawback for some individuals who prefer in-person support.
